PC advice needed

Hey guys,

I know a lot of you are pc gurus so thought I'd ask on here...

I've got a desktop that was running Vista which I have upgraded to Windows 7. Everything works fine EXCEPT I have no sound and tabbed browsing in internet explorer 9 does not work. New tabs open but they are blank.

SOUND: It would appear that windows 7 will not recognise the on board sound card on my motherboard. So it looks like I need a new (windows 7 compatable) sound card. Any recommendations?

Tabbed browsing: Having done a few searches online it appears that I'm not the only one to have this problem. It also appears that often it is down to the video card (don't ask me why since it worked in vista but heyho). I was thinking about this anyway as I've got a few games that the on board graffics on my motherboard struggled with. So can anyone recommend a video card as well? Doesn't have to be spectacular, just something to play silent hunter 5 etc on.

As always any help/advise gratefully received.

System specs

Motherboard ASrock N68-S
Processor AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core 2.31GHz
Ram 4 GB (3.25 usable)
OS Windows 7 32bit
Internet I.E.9
Anti Virus Clamwin

Many thanks

With regard to the Tabs coming up blank, have you gone into Internet Options > Tab Settings ? Changed the settings for it doesnt open a blank page and opens your homepage?

Or are you talking about webpages opening in new tabs, but not opening?

The first thing to ask is - have you installed the most up to date drivers for - mother board, sound adapter & video adapter?

Even with on board sound and video, you need seprate drivers (sorry if im teaching you to suck eggs etc)

I've checked the settings in I.E. and I'm sure it's not that.

When I click on a link (or right click and select "open in new tab" a new tab opens but then just sits there remaining blank. I've also tried right clicking and selecting "open in new window" when nothing happens at all. It's bl**dy annoying.

Have just fixed the sound card problem. I think!

The really bizarre thing (To my mind anyway) is that if I right click a link on my toolbar and select open in new tab it works... just not when i'm selecting a link on a web page

Internet Explorer 9 has got loads of bugs, so i'm not surprised. Mines really pissing me off, i might roll back to 8. If its not right, why introduce it??

Reinstall Explorer 9 and check on-line for new drivers for your motherboard on the Asrock site.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

As above, I'd try using firefox, chrome, safari etc... Especially before you spend money on new hardware.
