Cisco people help please

Any Cisco qualified people on here?

I have acquired a Cisco 1200 wireless access point and it won't reset using the resetall command whilst using Hyperterminal so I can't get going with it.

Any help would be much appreciated

Just asked a friend of mine at work and he says it could be that you dont have full admin rights on the device if you have aquired it he said try "configure factory-default" this should work if you have admin rights

When I enter any commands I get the result:-


"Translating "resetall"...domain server (255.255.255.255)
% Unknown command or computer name, or unable to find computer address"

hmm asked him and hes out of ideas just found this though

Steps for Firmware Versions 11.07 or Later
Follow the steps in this section if your access point is running firmware version 11.07 or later.
Note The following steps reset all configuration settings to factory defaults, including passwords, WEP keys,
the IP address, and the SSID. If you do not need to reset the entire configuration, use the Configuration
Reset buttons on the System Configuration Setup page in the web-browser interface. Consult the Cisco
Aironet Access Point Software Configuration Guide for more information on the reset buttons in the
web-browser interface.
Step 1 Use a straight-through cable with 9-pin male to 9-pin female connectors to connect the COM 1 or COM
2 port on your computer to the RS-232 port on the access point.
Step 2 Open a terminal-emulation program on your computer.
Note These instructions describe HyperTeminal; other programs are similar.
Step 3 In the Connection Description window, enter a name and select an icon for the connection and click
OK.
Step 4 In the Connect To window, select the port to which the cable is connected and click OK.
Step 5 In the Port Settings window, enter the following settings:
• 9600 baud,
• 8 data bits,
• No parity,
• 1 stop bit, and
• Xon/Xoff flow control
Step 6 Click OK, and press Enter.
Step 7 When the Summary Status screen appears, reboot the access point by unplugging the power connector
and then plugging it back in.
Step 8 When the access point reboots and the Summary Status screen reappears, type :resetall, and press Enter.
Step 9 Type yes, and press Enter to confirm the command.


**Note The resetall command is valid for only 2 minutes immediately after the access point reboots. If you do
not enter and confirm the resetall command during that 2 minutes, reboot the access point again.**

have you tried doing it within two mins of a reboot? ^^

Thanks for the help mate,

I tried all that and got the message above.

However I found a "mode" button on the machine and held that in whilst rebooting which reset the thing. I have now been able to get onto the web interface so I think I've cracked it now.

Hold down mode to get into the boot loader. Then you need to rename running-config to old-config and reboot. It will come up in a virgin state. You can then log in as admin with no password, copy old-config back to running-config, then reset password and reboot. Voila you're in.

That's how I'd do it on a switch, it may well be the same on an AP?

are you sure it has got the correct software build on it. there is a build for running from a controller using ldap and one for running standalone without a controller if i remember correctly.
