Microsoft Works

This is probably a dumb question. Most of mine are

I have a laptop which has only got Office on it and I have a database programme written in the Works database (.wdb extension) which I want to run on the laptop. So, I need a copy of Microsoft Works. I've searched high and low in the huge pile of software CDs and can't find MS Works. Is there anywhere I can download this from or is there another solution to my problem?

Thanks in advance,

Mike, the computer numpty...

Hi Mike

Does Open Office cope with .wdb extensions?

You can still find works on the torrent sites if you look hard enough. Its taken me 5 years to ween my mother off works and get her using office...

Hi Derek, I've looked at OpenOffice but I cannot see if it opens .wdb files. I'd rather find a copy of Works if possible as I am at ease with the use of the package.

Hi Tegwin. Any clues as to which sites? I know that works is a horribly basic package but the database is actually a very competent bit of kit and its simplicity appeals to me

Thanks,

Mike

I have an unopened cd of works 7.0 which came with an old acer laptop. Must be nearly ten years old but I could pop it in the post if it would work. (I will open it now and see if it loads on XP and a non acer machine.)

Yup. Installed easily on my XP desktop.

Oooh Dusty that could be superb. I'm obviously happy to cover your costs if it's a runner! I'd be running it on an old IBM Thinkpad on XP.

Thank you. I'll wait to hear if it works.

Thanks,

Mike
