PC wont start... HELP!
Big log post beep this morning and during the boot sequence I get this and it stops.....
Any ideas? Is it a death pose, will a format C: do it? To be honest if I format C: I would prefer to go back to windows 2000.

Check that the cd/dvd is empty, if it is and your still getting the problem, check boot order. If that looks right try booting of a bootable CD\DVD.

The MBR is probably damaged, easy to fix if you have the original install cd.

If that's the case then it could be an indication that the hard drive is starting to fail
"That thing you're thinking - it wont be that."

Tried that, no option for it in Vista....
So, I now have it going.... it takes sometimes several attempts to get past the long post beep and the problem continues if the cd drive is empty....
however, when I have my Windows 2000 install disc in there it asks to press any key (as they do) but I leave it and it boots... its as if its using
the disc, cause it spins up, to get it started.
Its like using easy start on an engine, is there no going back, do I need some new hardware?

You will need the original vista cd or at least borrow one, here are some instructions half way down.

I have the Vista cd but I only get the option for repair or a new install.
With the Windows 2000 cd in it boots normally if I dont press the any key.. if I do I get several options the top one being a boot manager that lists
Vista.
Without anything in the cd drive I get the same as in the pic above.

It looks like an issue with your hard disk drive, however your statement that "With the Windows 2000 cd in it boots normally" do you mean
that it boots the OS on the hard disk or that the Windows 2000 installer?
If the former then I a bit confused but I'd say it's an issue with the MBR (master boot record). One option you could try is the repair
option on the vista boot. The other thing worth trying is getting your data of the disk, if one of the boots you tried gets you visibility of the disk
then I'd save a copy of you important stuff, just in case.
