HDMI to single Cat 5

Hi All

A mate has just built a new house and he's run two lengths of Cat 6 to each of his Smart TVs (I want one now!). He's used one length to provide his network connection but he now wants to run HDMI from his central Sky box to the TVs.

There are loads of convertors / adaptors out there from cheap (HDMI TO Cat5 Cat6 Enthernet UTP AV LAN Extender Network HDTV Adapter | eBay) to super expensive!

Anybody got any recommendations?

Ta

Wyn

Home and work I've always found Belkin kit to be good quality and value and widely available.

As a guide, I've done a similar thing to get a VGA signal from my PC to my projector (around 15 metres I reckon?). Simply using bog standard cat 5 cable and two 15 pin plugs I was able to make up a perfectly workable lead that can carry resolutions up to 1280 x 1024, IE just below HD. It might carry more but my project can't handle the input!! It also doesn't carry audio, but you're looking at far lower sample rates for audio compared to video.

You can either go for the full recoding options (super expensive), or you can simply use those sorts of adaptors (super cheap). The former will be for very long distances, the latter will do for most domestic installations.

Didnt know it could be done with one hdmi cable. I've used cheap
Converters for my house a
But used 2 cat5e cables 200 Metres in total. Had issues with the hdmi splitters that's the only problem
I found. All the cheap hdmi to cat5 worked fine.

Next house I'll put in 4 lots of cat5 to each room and some dark fibre so it's future proof.

Thanks

I wonder if it can do a vga and 3.5mm jack to cat5, so I could do this from the desktop?
