Outdoor project advice
I am in the process of laying chipboard 8x4 sheet timber on deck joists in the garden prior to laying artificial turf on top to create a patio
area.
I have opted for chipboard as marine ply or Fenolick board is too expensive at £82 per sheet.
What can I seal the chipboard with to make it not swell?
The chipboard will be roughly one-one and a half inches away from the soil and that will be covered in plastic sheeting anyway.
I have heard PVA is a good choice?

Chipboard is no good for any use outside, whatever you seal it with.

+1 chipboard is crap for most things and certainly no good where there's a hint of moisture.
I'd be thinking along the lines of leveling the ground, a layer of weed control fabric, chuck down the cheapest/heaviest/thickest concrete slabs
you can find, then your fake turf. Fast, cheap and maintenance free.

There are deck joists already down.
There are so many different types of sheet material,I am unsure as to which are moisture proof

The reason it has been raised is because of a large cherry tree root running below

Decking boards would be my first choice as well, at least they're designed to be outdoors. Every so often Wickes do them half price so it can
get pretty cheap.
Alternatively, if you're looking to cover it, try something like reclaimed scaffolding boards. A guy at work picked up a whole load of
scaffolding boards for a stupidly cheap price, built some decking and two sheds out of it!
