Google Play
Anyone here use Google Play?
Is it like itunes?
i.e. once you have bought say a film or some music, it is held in your account like itunes and you can watch it/down load it whenever you want, to
what ever device you want to view/listen to it on?
How does the renting work?

Did'nt google buy out lovefilm Mark, and its the same thing but includes apps etc. could be wrong.

Hi Bob, I think Amazon bought Lovefilm....
I was in PC World and bought a Chromecast the other day which obviously leans towards Google Play but also does Netflix and BBC iplayer.
I have only tried iplayer so far and I have to say I'm impressed with the quality, so I was just wondering about the others.

Google play usually has 2 options for renting/buying films.
1st option is to rent it for around £3-4 (new films) which intitles you to watch the film completly once. You have 3 days to complete the film once
you start watching it.
2nd option is to buy the film for around £9 (new films) which I persume intitles you to watch/download it whenever you like.

Chromecast is very limited in it completely depends on another device, phone, tablet or PC.
Roku now have a £50 dongle the same size as the Chromecast device, like the other Roku boxes it is a stand alone device with its own remote.
Amazon are rumoured to be close to launching a device very similar to the Roku one.
Most of the boxes give you the main non-subcription stuff iPlayer, Demand5 but not all offer ITV Player or 4oD.
Which box/dongle you use limits which subscription service you get,
Amazon don't as yet cover Android devices but you can watch via Chromecast.
For Netflix Roku is the way to go. Roku. Also give you all the NowTv/Sky channel,
The NowTv box is only a £10 and gives you. NowTv. and Sky you can also watch the free services without paying as subscription.
We have found Netflix the best value for money but will get an Amazon dongle when available.
NowTv and Sky services are very poor for value for money unless you must have the very latest movies.

I don't know how it stores films (I've only used it for music and apps) but it isn't like iTunes which stores the downloaded (when
purchased) files in a nice folder that you can add to, delete, copy, etc.
You need an separate app (google manager?) to download music to a pc and give you control over the files you have bought. PITA

Course your right Mark, should have known, we had lovefilm free for a year when we took out taltalk and amazon emailed me when they took over saying I
could now log in with my Amazon a/c details.
Now share a Netflix a/c with my daughter, Netflix is loads better.

Yeah iPlayer has pretty good cross platform support but ITV Player is a bit iffy on most platforms, 4oD works great and has great content but they
don't seem interested in making it work when updated for example in works on the Roku LT and Roku 3. And the Roku made NowTv box but not on
Roku 1 Roku 2.

Netflix kept us entertained over Xmas for £6. a month it is a bargain,
I think Amazon will pour money into Amazon Prime Instant/LoveFilm and will catch up very quickly.
The word is the Amazon dongle will be launched in the USA at the start of April that would suggest an autumn UK launch.
