display driver stopped working problem

Hi all

My desktop has some problems with the display driver stopped working, once this message appears it shuts itself down
and restarts,

I can access everything on the PC and it all appears to work except if I open up internet explorer or Mozilla

Does this appear to be a hardware or software problem, as I seem to be getting conflicting responses on the interenet

regards

steve

unfortunately it could be both! to help diagnose try uninstalling the current display driver so it reverts to the built in windows standard vga driver, you will be limited on what resolution you can run probably no more than 1024X768 but if the display seems stable using this then the probability is that its the driver that's at fault, if the issue persists then vice versa.

If its the driver download the latest driver for your card, I tend to prefer the drivers from the graphics card chipset manufacturer rather than those that the card manufacturers issue, you may loose some funky vga property dialogue boxes but unless you are a hard core gamer you wont notice any difference. I'm presuming its either an NVidia or ATI card as if its Intel its probably but not certainly on board.

Thanks for the reply

I seem to of sorted it for now, by mucking about in the performance area, in the control panel
lots of web searches etc, seem to bring up lots of very different ways of fixing the problem
