Broadband - ADSL, Fixed IP

I think the title says it all really. To avoid noisy kids, being the local drop-in centre and general palava in the Noodle household, I use my mates house as an office while he's at university.

I opened some ports in my firewall to get access to my Fedora Core 2 database cum everything server but my ISP provides dynamix IP's that change. Alot.

I'm looking for an ADSL provider that provide fixed IP's; cheaply. I've been very happy with PIPEX, but they want me to upgrade to some business package - where you get nothing extra useful, but just a picture of some male model in a suit rather than a picture of someone at home. Then you have to pay a couple of quid extra for a fixed IP and I'm looking at an extra 6 and a half quid a month for no discernable difference.

I'll have to sell my sons insulin on the black market to get the money back. I don't think he'll be best pleased about that!

Anyone got any suggestions for cheap fixed IP broadband?

Cheers,

Neil.

Maybe not the cheapest around, but DEMON give ADSL customers a fixed IP.

Demon Express Solo package £24.99pm

Static, non NAT IP address.

Is that the same thing? freedom2surf service has it and the cheapest, although it's metered, is £14.99+ installation.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

We are with adsl4less (google it). They are static IP.

£15/month 512kb/s or £21/month for 1Mb/s. No contract, but there is a connection fee and you have to provide your own modem. Its totally unlimited download (unlike a lot of peoples!).

Cheers,
David

Zen -- free migration 8 static IPs (note only 5 can be used as 3 are required for networking purposes) Unlimmited (yes "unlimmited" ) web space.
very reliable and fast --- see adsguide web site.
Only 2 downsides --- news servers not great for high volume news groups and only one mail box.

Noodle,

Depending on what you're trying to do, www.dyndns.org may go some way to helping with your problem without changing provider.

My business offers broadband under the trading name 'EvolutionDSL'. 512k-2MBit, fixed IP and hostname, spam/virus protection on email, webspace etc. Also plugs straight in to the hosting network so LocostBuilders will always be super fast.

£21.99 all in for 512k, £29.99 for 1MBit or £39.99 for 2MBit on 50:1 unlimited usage. Bit more expensive than the 'high street' offers which reflects what you're getting

Setup is £50 for a new line but I believe a migration from another ISP is £30 (need to check).

Online sign up isn't working yet but if you drop me an email I can set you up.

Thanks for all of your replies.

I did a line check for 1MB on EvolutionDSL Chris and there's an error with the site. Customers.php is missing. Does the price include VAT? Although I've ever to find a use for an ISP's webspace, they only seem to offer 10MB. Isn't that tantamount to meany-ness?

David, adsl4less don't advertise their 1MB service anywhere on their site. Grrrrr. What's you experience of them? Reliable?

Neil.

ADSL4less seem pretty reliable yes. Not had any problems afaik. We were offered a 1mb upgrade after a couple of months on 512Kb. Just looked on their website and i see what you mean about it not being advertised.

Cheers,
David

The website isn't finished yet, John is working on it right now. If you are interested, email me your phone number and I'll do the line check.

Also, 10MB is a typo - the limit is 100MB as far as I know.
