BT Broadbean upgrade!
Just noticed this on the BT Broadband site:
"Faster, at no extra cost or inconvenience to you
BT is increasing the speed of all our packages, for both new and existing customers, at no extra charge.
For existing customers like you...
From 17 February 2005, we'll begin automatically upgrading existing BT Broadband and BT Yahoo! Broadband customers to the fastest speed
available on their line - up to 2Mb.
From 24 March 2005, we'll begin automatically upgrading existing BT Broadband Basic customers to the fastest speed available - up to 1Mb.
You don't need to do anything. We'll let you know by letter and/ or email when your speed is due to be upgraded.!

Remember the addage:
"No such thing as a free meal...". What are the downsides? Or are they just positioning themselves to gain market share?

They say it's because the market requires higher bandwidth due to all the on line music 'n' stuff that's available these days.
Also other companies are offering faster speeds for less and iguess they are loosing customers.
Blueyonder upgrade free as they go along so others must do the same...or they die.
BT say they will upgrade you as fast as the technology allows depending on the age of equpment at your local exchange and the distance away from your
exchange so not everyone will get 2Meg broadband but most will and it will take about 5 months to convert everyone.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 2meg!!

They don't say "when", though, just "after". I got the same email, but no increase in speed, as yet. They have, however,
introduced a 15Gb/month download limit. Like you say, nothing is free

Take a good look at any amended T&Cs. Remember seeing somewhere that they're introducing downloads caps as well in the amended contract.
