PS2 - VGA Lead and Sync Splitter
Probably a long shot but some people might be interested, and other highly inteligent bods might even be able to help... here goes!
Right... I found this website:
http://skygate.bravehost.com/PS2_VGA_cable.html
On how to make up a lead to run a PS2 on a VGA monitor.
I made up the basic lead and found my monitor didn't have the "SYNC-ON-GREEN" facility and therfore needed to make up the aditional
"Sync Splitter"
I made it up as described other than the 575 Kohm resistor, the closest I could get was 560 Kohm, this brought the monitor to life but was outside the
range, displaying H15.0 Hz and V 50.0 Hz.
Thinking it was the resistor at fault I tried a 620 Kohm yet this still gave the same out of range figures (i was expecting it to be the other way
maybe).
So... Any suggestions people (whilst writing this I've just thought I never checked the polarity of the Capacitors if it matters in this case)
and it doesn't make it clear if you disconect the green on pin2, or connect it in parallel with the original connection of the basic lead.
Any ideas and help would be most appreciated,
Thanks, Ian

Try using multiple resistors to get the desired resistance.
The equation for working out the resistance from resistors in parallel is:
1/RT=(1/R1)+(1/R2)
Where
RT = total resistance
R1 = resistor 1
R2 = resistor 2
Or for resistors in series you just add the value of the resistors together to get the total
RT = R1 + R2

You keep the original green on pin 2 connected as well the connection to pin 2 of the LM1881
About to go through the same process with an xbox instead.
My LCD tv/Monitor has sync on green but i've found out that the VESA standard for sync pulses is a negative voltage - with the color signal
starting at 0 Volts. The xbox cannot output negative voltages so everything looks rather grey green with the voltages it produces.
I hope you don't get the same situation with the ps2!
Cheers

I can't get it to display at all because it looks like the Vertical and Horisontal signal it puts out is out of range and I don't
understand why, Unless it is because of the resistor issue.
There is a version of the lead for the X-box if you follow 1 of the links at the nottom of the page I linked to.
(Maplins have a VGA box that you feed S-video and phono into at the moment for £20 if thats any use to anybody)
