Windows Security Centre Virus
Hi all, I've done a search and most of the things suggested on here to do with Viruses and Firewalls but nothing seem to be helping
Windows Security Centre keeps popping up from a little Red X on the system tool bar and saying that "your computer is infected" and then
goes on to say click here to download the latest protection tools. (which incidently are trial versions and don't remove anything, although that
link has stoped working now as well.)
I have the latest free versions of
AVG
AD-Aware
SpyBot
and have cleared everything they've found but windows message still keeps popping up!
And in the control panel you can't access the windows firewall to turn it off to replace it with something else!
Any suggestions folks?

I don't think microsoft would offer the trial versions, could it be a piece of software causing this, and directing you for advertising?

I had the same problem - turned out to be RealPlayer and RealPlayer Scheduler. I use Ctl/Alt/Del to bring up the Windows Task Manager and close
these programs any time I reboot, and the problem disappears. If you have RealPlayer it's worth a try...

I should have mentioned - I, too, have AVG, AdAware and Spybot (among others!), and NONE of them catch the RealPlayer automatic links to the
'net and its associated advertising popups.
