What is DLA

I have just received this message from a friend. I don't know the answer,but thought one of you might.

have just got my new game called medieval 2 total war. but im having problems putting onto the computer, when i put the disk in it brings up . 'your version of DLA cant read files on disc but you will not be able to edit to them'. can you tell me what DLA means and what i should do.
