pc not reconizing camcorder

hi all i have just installed a firewire card to my pc and installed some video capture sottware .the firewire card has 3 ports on it 2x 6 pin and 1x 4 pin .
my camcorder is a cannon supplied with the firewire card is a 4pin-6pin cable connected it all up just wont reconise the camcorder at all.
firewire card seems to be working in device manager and im running xp sp2
any one any ideas

Hmm....if you do a google search, there's been loads of issues with SP2 and firewire camcorders....I've totally given up trying to get mine to work and just plug it directly into the DVD recorder now.

There's a few fixes around....one of them may work for you...

You should have Windows movie maker - you could try that. I have XP with SP2 and no problems either with Moviemaker or U-lead editing software.

You could try playing back tape manually to see if that makes computer wake up. Also, my camera needs menu set up to output digital signals in playback.
