Laptop problem

Hey Up

My laptop has gone tits up.

It'll only start in safe mode, it won't system restore, there's not much on it at the moment, is there some way of getting it sorted?

When turn it on normally it just runs the Windows XP splash screen forever

A rescue disc or something?

TIA

Chris

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Rich, I presume you mean that I should type "msconfig" in the run box? and click ok?

it just freezes at that point

And I haven't got a system disk

bugger

Yes exactly, what you have done is correct. You say you haven't got a system disk, have look throught your disks and see if you've got a system restore cd or recovery cd, you should have got something with it or even just a windaz cd. I'm about an hour away if you are really stuck, u2u me if you need help and we'll sort something out.

Regards

Rich

Chris - what have you installed recently? Sounds like a anti-virus thing? Some manufacturer's are putting the total XP setup into a seperate partition - if you cold start into setup (DEL on startup) then boot from the XP partition it 'should' restore it all without loosing much/anything. If you have no new disc they are quite easy to come by if you know the right people - or go to car boot sales.

Nothing really.

del on startup takes me to the "windows has failed to start" screen, with the choices of safe mode, safe with command promt, safe with networking, start windows normally and start from last known good configuration.

Is there anything "available" online

Cheers

Chris
