Going back to a router from BT Hub
I had a ADSL router and changed over to a BT Home Hub which keeps crashing on me so i want to go back to a router.
When setting up the BT Hub i had to change the numbers for the TCP/IP properties in Network connections from "obtain an ip address
automatically" to a load of numbers.
given by BT.
When going back to a ADSL router will i have to change back to clicking the "obtain an ip address automatically" box?

You may need the following for BT Internet
Connection type is PPPoA
VPI=0 VCI=38
Encapsulation = VC/MUX
MTU = 1400
Oh and your username & password

No idea I just made it all up 
You will probably need to run a set up wizard of some sort on your router, the Belkin one I have is a simple step by step jobby, you'll need to
be connected to it, best way is to just plug your LAN cable straight into the router and address it via a web browser using its IP address something
like 192.168.2.1 no www's or http's just the numbers and dots!
Try that and see where you get to! If all else fails read the instructions!

Try 192.168.2.1 that should get you talking to your router.
Just check the settings and make sure its set to obtain IP address automatically, the other settings I gave you may auto configure, my Belkin
doesn't.

Ip address depends on how the router was setup most routers are at 192.168.1.1 or or 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.254 or less common 192.168.2.1 or
192.168.2.254 if unsure and the common ones don't work a network sniffer is required.
such as Angry IP Scanner http://www.angryziber.com/ipscan/
nb some antivirus programs show Angry IP Scanner as malware, it isn't just a software tool that network manager don't encourage merkins to
use.

just done the same as you mine, worked first time, with no proding from me....
works better than the hub, and more sequre without fiddling

I had a few problems with my hub at the start but I phoned them up and the guy remotely accessed my computer, changed a few hub settings and
it's been great ever since.

Ok... saga continues. I have spent 45 mins with BT telling me to do this and do that and they have concluded that the line is fine and the hub is fine
and it's me that has the problem. So i told him where to get off and plugged my old ADSL router in and ping..all is working better and faster
than ever before.
So two fingers up to BT!!
