Registry Smart (worth having?)

Does any one have experience of this

Registry Smart

I've just done the free scan and it's found over 500 faults.
Is it worth $40 or can anyone recomend something either better/cheeper.

Nick

Looks a bit like snake oil to me....

The registry is so complex that it would be difficult to design a piece of software to fix all possible problems with it, particularly after say a year of installing and uninstalling programs.

Some of the other claims they make about being able to "fix" broken dlls and ocx files are rubbish. It's not possible to do that, unless you have a backup copy of a good one to go back to.

It's a bit like those things you can get to put on your car, that apparently increase power and reduce fuel consumption. The effect is mostly placebo, I'd reckon....

It's true that cleaning up the registry (IE removing unused keys etc) can make the computer work a bit better. But there are lots of freeware softwares that'll do that. Beyond that I'd be dubious...

Tune up utilities seems to do a reasonable job at this. The product is for a time limited free trial so it actually does sort out the stuff it finds.

I have a piec eof kit called Registry Booster... it removes unwanted dll's, cleans disused registry entries and defragments it all. Cost me a bit (liar - read took me a while to find) and does a great job of keeping boots quick!

Thanks for the input. I'll save my pennies and put them into the build.
