Compensation

I had a call from HP yesterday, and due to the fact that it has now been over a month since my faulty laptop was collected for repair, and the shambolic way in which my complaint has been treated, they have offered me a new increased spec laptop, but have yet to provide any details.

The laptop I bought had the following spec, and for those of you who are in computing, if I am given any choice (doubtful), what would be a reasonable spec to expect?

AMD Turion 64X2 TL60
2 X 1024 MB DDR2 667 MHZ memory
Multi DVD writer ( +/- R, +/- RW) with double layer support
802.11a/b/g pre n wireless LAN with Bluetooth
17” WXGA+ High Def Bright view widescreen
Webcam
Two batteries (one spare)
TV tuner
Vista Home Premium
Works 8.0
1 year standard warranty
3 year Care Pack Service
Case

Regards, Ian.

Let me guess, they have lost your original laptop.

I would say the only thing you should look at is the processor of the new one, make sure it is faster than the old one, other than than ensure the spec of the new one matches identically, the old and if not complain that they are not replacing like for like. If they say they are giving you a faster processor to compensate just tell then you were happy with the old one, the only reason they will give you a faster processor is because, the old one is out of production.

The laptop doesn't sound that old, so most likely, they will replace it with the exact same model

Faster processor, bigger/faster disk is about it. With that screen it's pretty much top of the range anyway.

Microsoft office instead of works?

Thanks All,

Just heard from them, and the options were either wait 3 weeks for a new slightly higher spec one, or take one off the shelf with a 2.2 Ghz Intel chip, a higher spec DVD writer, higher spec graphics card, 360 Gig Hard Drive and more memory slots. No deal on the software though.

They've been an absolute nightmare to deal with. I took delivery last month, sent it back as it was faulty, and they've had it a month, with no idea when it 'll be repaired. Should be getting the replacement in a couple of days.

Personally I would be tempted to tell HP to take a running jump....

and buy something like a Dell instead (although the prices they offer to joe public aren't nearly as good as the B2B pricing)
