Anyone else bought a new Apple iMac?

Just wondering if anyone else has bought themselves one of the new Apple iMac's? I've been waiting on them being released since about May and when they finally arrived I couldn't wait to get my hands on one.

I got the 24" model which now comes with a glossy screen. This almost put me off until I actually saw it and fell in love immediately. Whipped out my credit card an bought it on the spot!

Computing is enjoyable once more I'm pleased to say.
Cheers,
Craig.

Tried to use an apple the other night and the lack of the abilty to right click just pissed me right off as I couldn't do anything I wanted to and couldn't figure out where anything was!

But I know those who use them tend to rave about them, and to be fair they are more aesthetically pleasing than your average black (ex-beige!) box under the desk.

Hi Ned,
You do realise you can use a 2 or 3 button mouse as well don't you? It's just like any other USB peripheral.

On the Mac you use the Ctrl key plus mouse click to access the context menu. Different I know but you get used to it in 30 seconds flat.

Really nice machine and completely silent which is nice too.
Cheers,
Craig.

ps. You can also run Windows or Linux on the box easily using an Apple program called Boot Camp.

I did figure out the control + click thing but couldn't change the mouse as it wasn't mine and didn't have a spare with me anyway.

My Dad was too busy asking why if they're so good with graphics doesn't his autocad run on it!

Anyways I think it was more not knowing the software than the actual machine itself.

You can run autocad on intel macs! there is a super bit of software called Parallels that runs a PC direct on the intel processor sharing it with the mac. Currently I am using a first generation macbook pro with 2 screens, we have an intel tower with 2 19" screens and even a macmini all running parallels, the mac mini is a bit slow but the other two are faster on PC tasks than our 2.8Gig Intel Dell boxes!

The current parallels doesn't really need 2 screens as you can run PC aps direct from the Mac finder window! One of the advantages of 2 screens is running two programs simultaneously and keeping an eye on both or cutting and pasting between them! Both can either share the same IP or each can have their own, if you really want to use the PC to catch viruses from the 'net ! I only use the mac side for internet so viri get caught before going anywhere near the PC!

Macs are just so much better than PCs!

Hi Caber,
Yes I'm familiar with Parallels but I'm planning to use the new VMWare Fusion product. It looks very very good and may well displace Parallels unless they recover some ground.

I used two screens on my PC but I'm hoping the 24" 1920x1200 pixel iMac screen will do the trick on its own.

Cheers,
Craig.

I've been waiting to buy since about May when the rumors first started about the new model. As you probably know, Apple keep their cards very close to their chest with regards to new or updated machines.

Besides the look (which some like and some don't) there isn't a huge difference between old and new. I suppose the biggest difference is in the price which has dropped a good bit. You can buy the old model via the refurbished store at quite a discount although I probably shouldn't mention that to you...

I'm sure you're enjoying the machine all the same eh?
Cheers,
Craig.
