log me in.com

has anyone used this for accessing remote PC's?
I am wanting to log into my PC at work from home and we dont have a VPN or anything like that set up.
I have seen the log me in .com website and also a few others that look similar, but i am dubious / sceptical about transferring data through a third party site without being sure it is safe. also some of the sites are free so are they any good.

cheers

Paul

Yep I have used it to access some of our clients data, never had any problems. The file transfer bit is only free for a short time, then you have to buy it. Another I use is www.isllight.com, but this requires the client to be at the computer to enter a security number that you get so would be no good in the way you want to use it

We use it to support our clients.

Very easy to setup, handy when you haven't got a computer savy user. Works 99% of the time too.

Haven't done much transferring of data but would think they are pretty secure, know of a few other big companies using them.

We use the free version of logmein for all our remote support (100 odd sites), it's quite nifty. The major bonus is that you don't have to piddle around with forwarding ports etc when the remote computer(s) is behind a router, so it's hugely easier to set up and get working when you have computers accessing the internet through someone else's local network. It's quite good over a slow-ish connection too, much better than the some of the simpler implementations of VNC.

We haven't had any issues with data security using logmein either. If you don't want to pay for the pro version that has file transfer or are worried about security you can always either use FTP or simply email the files to yourself

Any of the VNC clones work fine BUT like aware you are leaving open overnight a truly massive security breach ----

It would be much more secure and easier to use a pen drive and a file synchronization program.

How about running an FTP Server?

Guild FTP or Filezilla nice light weight and simple to set up.

I think if you read between the lines in that i have just written is says "spot the geek"
