MS Vista Help
Hi,
Having got a new PC (laptop) after my old desktop died. I need to copy off the contents of the old hard drive, so bought a USB to IDE connector to
transfer the files over.
Installed OK and the drive is shown in the device manager but its not shown in Vista's version of my computer??
If i pop in a USB pen drive these appear in my computer ok as removable drives.
Is there anyone out there that can shed any light on this?
Cheers
Ash.

Have you powered up the old drive somehow?
The IDE to USB lead is purely the data and the Drive either needs connecting to the PC's power supply or they are provided with there own in the
lead kit box.
Pen drives etc are powered by the USB port/hub itself but the HDD needs the power to be provided from somewhere else.

Was the old hard drive working when your desktop died or was that what caused it to die? I used a USB to IDE connector thing in vista and it worked
straight away.
Edit: The usb to ide device I had came with a power lead for the hard drive

Wow thats a quick reply!
The hard drive is powered by a lead which came in the kit.
Sorted it now, the slave/master jumper needed to be in nthe master/single drive position.
Cheers
