Vista halving size of SD card when formatting

Every time I put a 2GB SD card into my card reader is says it needs to Format it, which is does so, the default is FAT and allocation unit size is 'default.

When it does this it reduces the capacity of the card down to 1GB which is hugely annoying .....

Any ideas why, and how I can reverse it?

Vista - main in the arse that's for sure......

Known vista bug. Format it on your camera. You could try and update your card reader drivers and BIOS to see if the bug has been fixed.
