Internet acess numpty question

Hello All,

I recently formatted the PC Don't ask I was having a moment of inspiration.

anyway got the OS back on and couldn't find the Modem CD, so plugged it in, and it worked and is connecting me to the net? has it stored all the logon details inside it or something? It's a Belkin G+ mimo wireless router and modem.

I'm a bit of a numpty, and i'm worried i'm connecting to the net some other way and it'll cost me a fortune, but i can't see how as i've not given any details to anything?

help and reassurance needed.
Many thanks

All the settings will be on the router itself and the network port probably the wireless card on your pc will be set to automatically get an ip address from the router probably so yep everything should be ok.

Did you connect to your wireless network at any time and enter in your encryption key?

Or have you a network cable going from the router into the network socket on the pc even though it a wireless router, either way you're fine!

Regards

Rich

If you have a Cable or ADSL connection the router stores all the WLAN connection information (i.e. the connection between the modem and the exchange).

Presumably you have an Ethernet connection between your PC and the router. As Windows detected an Ethernet card during installation it automatically set it up to use DHCP. Since Cable/ADSL routers almost always have DHCP servers built in you rarely need to manually configure any IP settings.
