The info on the laptop was copied to my new one so i do not need the files that are on there. i have windows xp I would like to install but is not letting me.

if you just want to install XP, just boot off the XP disk. If you not worried about anyything on the hard drive just delete the partiion and install from scratch

There is a utillity out on the internet to reset the Windows 2000 administator password "Offline NT Password & Registry Editor"

It is on the the Ultimate Boot Disk but it also comes on its own bootable CD just down load it burn the ISO to CD using Nero or similar then boot from it.

Given the choice between Win 2000 and Xp unless you have something that really only works under Xp I would stick withn 2000

Yes you wil have to alter the boot sequence to boot from the CD and as part of the installation it will let you delete the existing partition
