It looks terrible and makes parts of the forum very difficult to read!
its chequer plate metal... no doubt something that was a background option in the web software at some point, and has stuck around ever since.
Cetainly isnt new!
This site isnt really about looking flashy to be fair, its looks understated and functional, much like the target audience!
I can t see how it makes things difficult, 90% of text is on a plain back ground.

There is no new background, it's been the same for many years. Possibly something has changed on your browser if the site is suddenly looking different, have you installed any extensions/plugins etc. recently?
Perhaps you should post up a screen shot so we can see what you mean? I don't think anyone would describe the chequer plate background that I am
seeing as terrible.

It's gone back to normal now, no idea what caused it, I was browsing on my ipad earlier and the machine mart logo was in place of the usual
chequer plate background, it really was horrible to view!
I'd not installed or updated anything either.
I've since tried both my iphone and ipad and the site does indeed look fine.
