Who running an R-1 can?
fullpint - 5/2/13 at 07:07 PM

Anyone running a blade in a MK Indy and using a R-1 can? If so do you know if it is below 105db? And if so what air filter are you using?
Already getting a collection of cans for the Mk and I have been offered a R-1 can (not the latest type) for £40. Would love to get below the 105db mark..

If I remember correctly its an r1 can I have on mine which is a pinto and I think I will probably have to change it or quieten it for IVA.

I had one on mine at SVA and still have it for track days and spare

It was 96dB at SVA and 97db at Donninton

Always used the standard air box

I just passed my SVA with an R1 titanium can and ZX9R with a bike engine (foam air filter) 5 year ago, I think the limit was 101dB

Cheers

I ran an early R1 can on mine with baffles, very quiet so gutted it and replaced baffles with 2" perforated tube and it was still under 105db.

Problem was induction roar to get below 98db, I have now taken under the half shaft and out the back to move away from general engine noise.

Regards Mark

Cheers chaps
I reckon I will buy it for my collection. And yes I must try to get a standard airbox and mod it to fit under the bonnet.
Appreciate your comments.

We had one on our indy but with the MK collector
Did'nt have enough room for the Cat so we did this
Gave us 97Db with a Db killer 98 without it

IVA exhaust with cat
IVA exhaust with cat

After the IVA reverted to the R1 can
I seem to remember it was around 98Db
The in pipe had to be modified as the angle is quite sharp

We just reversed the Yamaha air box
If its good enough for Yamaha ?

Interesting i always thought a bike can would make it louder, i worried about noise levels with a mk can when i was considering doing a track day at brands
