Bring the gear stick closer
alex1991 - 28/7/15 at 03:25 PM

Is it possible to bring the gear stick closer to the driver (an inch or two would do it)?
I have to have my seat far back for my long legs, unfortunately my arms didn't develop with the same reach and I have to go to maximum reach to get into 3rd gear.
Is there a product that would move the gear stick further back? I've seen the adapter plates but I don't really want to butcher my interior up as its finished and nicely done.

So a bent longer gear stick or maybe something like this?

Thanks

I've seen people bend the stock in a dog leg, it works but feels like a 2CV stick
Best option is the extender that goes on the gearbox

I made my own remote and quick shift following David Jenkins post several years ago, cost me the grand total of £0.92. Can't see any reason you couldn't make a shorter version?

It's a shame arms aren't made out of the same stuff that your nob is. Just give it a quick rub and Hey Presto! Problem solved.

If an inch or two is all that is needed I would go for a bent or dog-leg lever. My car had a 40mm dog-leg lever hidden by the gaiter. The gearchange was fine.
When I fitted a six speed box I had the opposite problem to yours. I had to move the lever forward by five inches. Now that was tricky!

What gearbox? Type 9?

Does anyone know if the extension Nero posted the eBay link to works with a 4 speed type E?

Yep I have a type 9 although I think I have the V6 version.

Where can I buy a dog leg/bent shifter from?
