Alloy refurb
l0rd - 21/3/12 at 07:10 PM

I am planning of refurbing a set of alloys.

My problem is that they are fake split rims.

How do i deal with it? Do i remove the fake torx bolts before i powder coat them? cover them?

What is the best sollution? Should i assume they bolts are glued there as well?

These are the ones in question

More than likely if you try to budge the bolt heads they will shear off. I'd say take em to the blasters/coaters . Cheers D

Light blast to clean off & then paint perhaps.. Or get pickin at the dodgy bits.

I think id be inclinded to but the refurb money towards a new set of rims without the silly fake bolts. Set of OZ superleggras or Rota Circuit 10s look very similar to those but dont have the fake bolts.

Cannot afford a new set.

Powder coating will be about 100-120 euros while any new set of alloys will be 400+

right lads

started to rub the wheels down to get rid of the paint. Should i remove the primer as well?

With any job the end results comes down to the preperation.
Those fake bolts should just un-bolt. I have seen some that are made of plastic so just take care. Once the bolts are removed a nice chemical strip followed by a grit blast. You have to ask your self is it worth spending thr time and money on those wheels?

A friend of mine had a set with the plastic bolts and they came out and went back no trouble when he painted and lacquered them.
