If so, why can't you buy crusty bread anymore?
My guess that the EEC has banned some ingredient or other
The excuse will be something like "the customer doesn't want crusty bread any more".
Get a bread maker - we bought a Panasonic one recently and you can make bread whichever way you like - crusty, soft crust, whatever
Mmm..I love freshly baked crusty bread...but it makes a hell of a mess when you slice it

I'm sure you can still get crusty bread... I shall have to look in asda when I next go there

We don't buy bread any more, make it ourselves not with a bread maker and when it comes out of the oven we put a tea towel over it while it cools to keep it soft, otherwise it will be crusty.
The EU can't have banned crusty bread and not banned the two settings on a toaster that burns or slightly warms your bread
