Makes me wince to think how badly it could've gone

And wrong in so many different ways, how did his hand not get trapped? What a knobhead!
Why in the first place did he think he could stop it?? Double DUM ASS!!
If you watch carefully the guy holding the lathe didn't have it switched on, the w***er behind him pressed the button.

Ah having the sound on probably makes all the difference
At least the tailstock was trying to stop the dopey pillocks from breeding....
Very, very disturbing.
Saw it on Friday and it keeps coming back- guy was so lucky it is unreal -like the bloke who got pinned to theground with a javelin and it missed all
the big bits on the way through.
Struck me as a set up when the event was being filmed but could have been maimed for life. Young and dumb
That video takes me back; when I did my apprenticeship some muppet absent mindedly started his lathe whilst he was holding on the the chuck key.
Amazingly he didn't get his hand trapped between the key and the lathe bed, but it was a very close thing. There was a big chunk out of the
concrete wall where another chuck key had been fired out of the chuck, nd another muppet tried to remove some swarf from a big old horizontal mill
before it had stopped turning (big flywheels on them) and had his finger removed for his troubles. 16 year old boys and machinery don't tend to
mix very well.

Luck lucky boy there, that could have gone so so wrong!
I'd imaging he's looking for a admin based desk job now
Our college machine shop also had a couple of gouges in the wall and floor from stray chuck keys. None in my group though fortunately.
In a subsequent job I once forgot to tighten the vice when using a fly cutter on a mill to remove several mm of material from some steel plate. The
noise it made when it hit the adjacent machine was unbelievable. My colleagues said I went so pale they could see through me I had to sit down for
a while and mull over what could have happened - funnily enough I'm now somewhat over cautious around machine and power tools!
I could actually see some of the lads on my apprenticeship giving that a go
Having seen a relatively small lathe munch through a 1/2" square tool shank as though it didn't exist, I would NEVER consider doing such a dumb stunt!
