There's a twonk on PH who's been advised by a so-called "barrister" to challenge being issued with a "Q" plate on the
grounds of it contravening his "'Human Rights" due to the stigma attached to it.
I sh1t you not...

Please don't go taking the pi$$.
It's towards the end of the thread.
Human rights were introduced with the best of intentions. Then lawyers got involved.
What exactly is the issue with having a 'Q' plate?
I didnt really know there was anything bad about it other than it shows you have built your own vehicle?!
or thats its stolen recovered, with an untraceable/unprooven history. - which is where the stigma comes from.

Technically thats wrong, IVA'd Q plate cars should in an ideal (for DVSA) world have the emissions limits they were tested on at IVA on the cert, which is then put on a database. The MOT tester should check this at MOT time and test the car to those limits. Never happens mind but its one to watch out for when deciding on what plate to try for.
The emissions it has to be tested to will be on the V5, this information should also be on the MOT special instuctions that the test prints out prior
to the test. This was the case on my last westy!
Or is this a case of another tester not knowing the rules?

Been discussed to death on here. Q plate is visual smoke only. (or should be if moter reads the intro pages correctly.)

"7.3 Exhaust Emissions - Spark Ignition - General
Q plated vehicles are to be treated as being first used before 1 August 1975 for emissions purposes"
So smoke only, not that complicated really!
