Positive American News
steve_gus - 5/11/05 at 11:55 PM

Cita has opened my eyes to the negativity we (I) show to Americans on this site, and feels its time to show good news about the states.

I think its important to address this and have a certain fair sense of balance.

Does anyone want to start with an offering? Perhaps something Cita might personally find interesting?

The good old US of A produce the best "unobtanium" in the world, loads of Bling.

And the "Kirby", what other vac' has a expected life of 30 years? With it's power drive it's sooo much easier on the wife.

Then there's "Coke". What else is there to put in a glass of "Woods"?

And of course, they have been kind enough to take Camilla off our hands for a while. Do you think they'll keep her?

Not really news but I'd like to thank America for giving me these bands/artists:

Dream Theater, Symphony X, Death, Cynic, Frank Zappa, Tom waits, Morbid Angel, Nile, Nocturnus, Pantera, Agalloch, Tool, Mr Bungle, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Captain Beefheart

I agree with Benzine All of the above plus a few more:
Black Label Society, GnR/Velvet revolver, Rob Zombie, Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Megadeth, Metallica, GZR, Motley Crue etc etc...

And then there is the wonderful drink known as JD (Lemmy still manages to drink a bottle per day... )

Back on the subject of the thread...
Its always hard to find good news about anywhere in the world. The only news that gets peoples attention is bad news, for example...
Do the press ever cover the vast amount of money that has been ploughed into the NHS by the current government?? Of course not, because some old dear who has been waiting 18months for a new hip gets more peoples attention... (and no I am not getting into a political argument, it was just an example)

Bad news sells as they say.

I quite agree on the bad news example!

However, and I still think Steve has missed the point, is that his reference to "Only in America" caused the offence. Whether intended or not it implies that only Americans would ignore the sight of someone hanging purely because they didn't want to get involved.
I'm sure Steve didn't mean it, but I thought it was a bit snotty. A sort of "I am supperior to you" type of comment!

At the end of the day I think I would have appologised if it caused offence and moved on. But that is me!

Now can we get back to the p1ss taking?

good news about fuel prices.... isnt that a bit like being told a mugger is going to stop kicking you in the face now - like things had to be bad before they got good!

I dont know Steve. All seemed a bit silly to me. I just took it for what it was, another silly thread. Didnt think you were implying anything.

I just stayed out of the argument...

As Kirby's been mentioned!

About 5 years ago we got a call from them asking if we would we like our carpets given a proper clean. What's the catch I said. None, just a quick demo of our machine.

Ok I said.

Blokes turned up on time and gave a talk that lasted about 2 hours

Very impressive I said.

Now clean the floor.

"Are you not interested, sir?"

"No!"

"What could we do to persuade you to have one."

"Knock 1600 quid off the price, have you finished yet?"

They then cleaned the carpets and left.
