jeffw - 30/12/13 at 08:47 PM

I have two 44mm holes in the bodywork of the Phoenix which need to be 47mm. What is the collectives thoughts on what is the best and cleanest/neatest way to do it....?

a big step drill if you need to keep the centre...

is it Steel or Grp?

In grp? a rasp file.

wont take too long.,.. or you could get a bit of round wood and wrap it in P40 paper. The bigger diameter the wood the neater the job.

I'd use my die grinder with small barrel sander or grinding stone.

Piece of ally - Drill your 47mm hole in it - clamp it centrally over your 44mm hole then use rotary flap wheel in a drill and gently take it out the edge of the alloy hole - voilà nice round resized hole.

Thanks for the suggestions....Do they do a stepper that big? It is GRP and right in the nose of the car.

If it is GRP then a 40mm dia drum style flap wheel in the end of drill , very cheap to buy in tool shops or ebay, but 6 times the price from B&Q.

conical piece of wood with sandpaper wrapped around it...

Hole saw drill the pilot hole in a piece of wood and clamp behind in the centre then drop the hole saw drill bit into the pilot hole .

Hi
I have a 47mm hole saw (Starrett Type)
If you are not too far away you can borrow it.

The holes are in the nose of the car so difficult to clamp behind. Flappy wheel seems the best bet.
