Does the BBC have it in for bikers?
Report on Radio4 this lunchtime about a West Country biker clocked doing "120mph with his teenage son clinging on behind faces a jail
sentence".
That's a bit like saying a car driver doing the same speed had a passenger "belted in".
OK it's an illegal speed and it is probably irresponsible but as reported that's all it was.
How many reports by a national news broadcaster are there of car drivers prosecuted for 120mph with a passenger on board?
Must have been short of news.
Rant over.

Pewe, so I'm 100% clear, 120mph and two up on a bike (with one of them a teenage kid) is OK then?

I'm not sure where you got that from, certainly not Pewe's post?
His point is why is this even remotely news worthy? Someone got caught doing a considerable amount over the speed limit, big deal. I bet dozens of
people get caught everyday doing the same or worse.

sorry guys but i think Pewe,s point was ...
just because it was a "BIKER"
I do see what he,s getting at, i,m NOT saying it was ok to do that speed with a youngster on the back or that its ok to do that speed riding
single,
but bikers are easy targets & seem to get pulled more just cos they ride a bike.
yes i,m a biker & a bike racer & see it all the time that the "motorcycle " is seen as anti social, yes there are some nutters out
there but there,s just as many bad car drivers too .
i think every car driver should learn to ride a bike, they,d be more aware of them on the roads & car driver at fault bike incidents would reduce,
same old excuse usually given " sorry mate didn,t see you"

Its part of the demonisation culture in the media, OK the guy was breaking the law, probably taking a bit of a risk, but he was on a new, wide road,
very little traffic (footage seen on westcountry TV!).
Can anyone using this forum honestly say they haven't done the same speed?
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

It's the same across all forms of news media - any distinctive label will be used to make a mundane news item a bit more "exciting".
What I would call "Sun newspaper reporting techniques".
It is a shame that the Beeb is sinking to the use of those methods - and they are, across all sorts of news items.

How do they think pillions stay on bikes? I'm a biker as well, fair weather only though. (when you're getting on you know)

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

isn't this the "it had just started raining so I sped up" bloke, they caught the bloke doing that speed as he approached a
corner.
Sorry, but that was completely irresponsible

Yes I can. I can honestly say I haven't done 120mph except as a paying customer on a commercial flight.

I wouldn't do it in any vehicle with passengers. Killing yourself because of your own stupidity is your own stupid fault, killing someone else
because of your own stupidity is not on.
Yeah why did it get on the news? If he was doing 180 then fair enough that's a bit psychotic to be doing that speed with a passenger be it bike
or car.
It's probably for the same reason some numpty having an argument in a house on tv makes front page news
