Porting Stoves....

I've been looking at my wood stove and the air inlet was rough cast..

So, thought I'd get the dremel and clean them up a bit, smooth the edges up...

Looking at the plate behind that closes the ports its slots are a canny bit bigger.. does anyone know if there's a benefit to porting out the front slots to match the back plate? EG: will it improve the air flow to the aircut cleaner for the door? Will it make the fire more efficient? Or am I knocking on it the wrong way thinking it works on engines??

Steve

I thought the idea was to restrict the air-flow to slow down the combustion rate and make the fuel last longer or are you making it into a smelter.
More air flow, means faster air flow, means more heat going up the chimney.

Stoves are designed to flow enough air to burn fuel efficiently, not hot enough to get the outside of the stove glowing and burn the paint off Put down the Dremel and step away from the stove

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Divvent like tea....

Anyway, I know the thing is to restrict the air but what I was thinking was a nice smooth flow over the door to keep the glass clean.

Its on now ticking over nicely at 230C

Supercharger won´t work as you don´t have a rotating element to take power, I reckon Turbo is te way to go!!
