Advice please, holiday entitlement
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as to where I go from here.
Last october I tried to book a week off work because I am completely sick of the sight of the place. So I started asking how much entitlement I had
left.
At the beginning of January I got sick of asking, so I booked "The last week in January, for however long I have left"
On the 4th of jan they called me to confirm that I'd asked for the above and told me I had taken 7 days over december. Well that was news to me,
and they didn't fully pay me for it. So I sent a letter of official grievance (I even put it in bold at the top of the letter as they have still
completely ignored the last one) and gave them 14 days to respond as to why they can't pay me for holidays they gave me without telling me.
So now the holidays I've booked start next week. Guess what? I'm in. Also their prementioned 14 days ended on friday.
What do I do? I need to spend some time away from this place that's making me miserable and actually have some semblance of a life (they have me
working every weekend, despite asking not to in writing twice too) and I'm beginning to feel like I'm going to snap soon.
Acas are going to be called first thing monday morning. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only advice I can give is...
Keep notes of everything that is said by you and your employers, when, and where. Keep copies of all letters your have sent and any recieved.
My understanding that in cases of tribunerals 'weight of evidence' is very important.
Great to calling Acas, also try CAB, and start reading your employment contract, nothing gets an employer twitchy than them being shown where they
have broken their own rules
Also possibly requesting a meeting with your boss to talk about ALL the problems your having, they have to arrange a meeting and can't avoid
it/brush under carpet/pretend it didn't happen, and of cource take notes.
Sorry to hear of your troubles but most employers seem to be 'takin the pi$$' at the moment.
Hope it's resolved to your satistfaction soon.

Are you employed directly by the company ?
Are you a union member ?
Have you spoken directly with your HR dept ?
Get a copy of your contract of employment and read the terms and conditions
and keep copies of dates/names of all correspondence
*If* your company is fairly large it will have a seperate holiday/leave policy
Alot of employers are messing with their employees at the moment because they
know we're in recession and they will be reluctant to walk...

When does your holiday entitlement for the year start ? If you are in full time employment you should be entitled to 28 days maximum, which can
include Bank Holidays, accrued over the annual working period so about 2.5 days per month. Are you paid overtime for weekends or given time off in
lieu during the week ? Your best bet is to read the relevant
website and get some help from CAB or ACAS as you suggest in your post.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Yes, no and he IS the HR dept.
Acas are aware, and I shall be reporting to them on what's happened as soon as possible. The holiday entitlement starts at the beginning of
april, so I have, well I have march to take the rest of it (whatever that may be)
Getting a copy of my contract is going to be as easy as the rest of this (I've been asking for holidays for four months, I've been asking
to not work EVERY weekend for 11 months)
No overtime, although one of the supervisors has told me I'm contracted to 8 hours a day (and if I find that's actually in my contract I
shall be excercising that one)
