There's an urban legend about someone who strapped a JATO pack onto a car and tried to drive it down the road, and he supposedly slammed into a wall at the first corner. This story appeared to be a load of cobblers, but nobody knew how it started.

The story that goes with it purports to be the source of the legend - a bunch of kids find a JATO, strap it to an old car mounted on a mine railway bogey and fire it off from a distance. It hammered down the track, failed to stop and slammed into the mine entrance. They covered up what they had done and ran away - but then the local sheriff found the wreckage, and the legend began.

It is quite an amusing story, and worth the effort...

rgds,
David

A very entertaining and well written story, and quite believable too but there is just one thing left unanswered, why was the HMS Beagle named so? i need to know! I think this syory would make an excellent adventure/ coming-of-age movie.
