sounds like an insurance job to me... could a mouse really have enough hair to carry fire say 10 yards and still set fire to a house?!

I bet it would.
if you dipped it in petrol or thinners . Mousetraps are quick and cheap, serves him right for being so tight. I reckon the leaf fire caught the
house and he didn't want to look stupid for lighting it too close to the house.
