Basically fuel feed in the side and blow air through the inlet, glow- or spark-plug to combust the mixture which is effectively blown away by the air
being forced in towards the restricted part. That speeds up the flow which drags more mixture from the forward inlet so it's self driving -
simples.
IIRC the Germans used pulse jets for Doodle-bug flying bombs!
Guys in the model-aero club I belonged to as a kid used to make them - still makes the hairs stand up when I hear that distinctive roar!!
