Not only in america!! - 2?
www.express.co.uk
the express is carrying a front page story today that christmas lights have been banned in a london suburb in case they upset other faiths.
They are being called 'Winter Lights' instead. As so many religious festivals are held by other faiths around xmas time, it was seen by
the local council as 'safer' to refer to xmas lights as winter lights as to not offend anyone.

Could that be taken as racism against christians? Do you think that other faiths would be more vocal if ramadan or diwali were banned and renamed
somthing "so called PC"
Birmingham Council renamed Christmas to Winterval a few years ago but got so much abuse from other faith groups that last year they went back to
Christmas.
Remember - we vote for these people.

i think the time has come for people to forget about racism and religionism. Stuff like police forces having to recruit minorities is doing more harm
than good IMHO, as essentially it is the last vestige of discrmination - indeed, it is discriminatory. Whilst it was probably a good thing in the days
when racism was more of an issue, its becoming a thing of the past now and these measures should be dropped.
Likewise, how insecure/oversensitive do they think other religions are, that they would be offended by us celebrating christmas? Its pathetic.
I bet they wouldnt come up with so many crap ideas if someone kicked their teeth out...

whats also interesting is the interview I heard on the radio about this. It will depend on who you beleive.
The story was headed something like 'christmas banned as it offends muslims'.
When the representative of the council was interviewed, they clearly stated that they WERE christmas lights and were being called christmas lights.
The story had arisen from the council magazine, whos author had been unsure of the PC of calling them xmas lights,. so took the decision to err on
safety as 'winter lights'.
This is either a really good cover up, or the express taking a simple mistake and turning it into an anti muslim story with a bit (or more than a bit)
of spin.

You're very likely right there Steve - more spin than a gypsy funfair. Ooops!
Taling to a friend of mine today who's a copper... he says you're 80% more likely to get into the police force now if you're from
the minority eg black, asian, female, lesbian. So if your all of them, when can you start! This country is going mad...

There was also an article on radio 5 yesterday saying that a policeman needs no qualifications. Just have to pass an entrance exam.
So, thats not a single gcse to your name, and you are in.
An example question was
"if a motorist is driving at 18 mph over the limit in a 30 mph zone, what speed is he driving at"
