Sorry Benzine It wasn't aimed at you or anyone in particular , and it doesn't really put me up nor down if you might be upset about
it
I just think everyone should lighten up a bit , Try this one : count backwards from 10 to 1 then shout as loud as you can WAYHAYE. just keep doing
that till everything you don't like goes to the back of your head and you can get on with more important issues in life like, Why am I reading
this dross some guy has posted and not getting on with building my car.

yeah, ok, I said I wouldnt add anything, but ive been thinking about this and here is my take on it.
Yeah, the 'follow the flock' thing has to be a factor. There is a certain 'run of conversation' on this board, such as all
blondes are dumb, beer is good, women are eye candy, cars are great, bush is stupid, and americans are a strange lot. So, of course posters tend to
put those kinda stories up.
Ive tried to think what posts ive made that Cita has thought makes me an American hater - cos its confusing the heck out of me. Perhaps Cita, you
could search my posts, and also under my old posting name, as I dont feel I have anything to hide. As you have been so persistent and obsessive about
this, I think you could at least back up your accusations.
Anything I may have posted about Bush doesnt count I would be the first to admit I dont find him impressive.
Its hard to say either way if Im pro or anti american, in the same way I cant say im religious or not, support Labour or not, or like America or not,
or the British or not. There are good and bad things about all aspects. If I say I like America, then Im saying I like the technology, the people (who
by and large are a whole lot more friendly than those in the UK), the 'world policeman' role, the way they helped out the UK after all
else in Europe had fallen in WW2, and many many other things. Then you would have to consider the negative things - Napalm, nuclear proliferation,
gun culture, has people living on the beach in California as they have no where to go, and ive been to a kids hospital that was really plush in San
Diego when my son broke his arm, and there is no way a poor hispanic kid with no insurance could have got in the place) . Taking it all into account,
I like america, and its people, but there is a lot wrong with it.
Likely its the same for the UK to an outsider. Heck, there probably is from where im sitting !
So, Cita, I find it hard to say with blind faith that I am pro american, in the way that you do.
There are cultural differences - I dont know how Belgians stand on that one. The american psyche is that the country is great, that they kick ass,
and are all together great guys. The UK psyche is that things are crap, we never do anything to success, and that the country underperforms. You never
see 'god bless the uk' or any such razamatazz that the americans use. So, we (or I) am much more likely to be critical, cos thats
certainly my way, and much more so the UK way than for an American. So, if im critical about the USA, its no different from the way that the brits
criticise their own country.
You will see lots of bitching on here about police and government, and about annoying neighbours. There was even the dog sex post yesterday! If I had
posted that, and it was in America, then you would have criticised it.
Again, thinking about your reaction, I wonder how you actually interpreted my post - it seems many people have seen it in different ways. I can think
of three.
1. That it was a posting of how crazy a place america can be.
2. That it was intended to show that americans are incredibly stupid.
3. That it was intended to show that americans dont care that someone is hanging from a tree.
My scenario was to show (1) within the scenario of Halloween, and was linked to a quirky clone of Conrods posting. Perhaps that coloured things a
bit.
I have no doubt that you will now tell me that I meant something completly different, with the judmental arrogance of someone thats never met me,
doesnt know me, or has some other axe to grind.
Im also left with the overwhelming feeling that how I feel about any country, or anything, has bugger all to do with you.
I would also like to take this moment to say to anyone in north america, south america, or anywhere that could have been inferred in the post, that
its not a deadly insult to your kith and kin, simply a 'crazy americans' post in the joke section of a car bulletin board. It wasnt
intended as anythign else. If you have been insulted by it, then that wasnt the intention.
If you point to New Orleans posts as being anti american, it was universally presented in the UK media that the American response was poor. There was
much criticism in america itself about the response. The BBC (essentially the state broadcaster and news agency) saw america as 'lacking'
in New Orleans. But thats a whole new subject in itself....
At the end of the day, what I think about America (which in this case wasnt negative) has nothing at all to do with you. I have the right to express
positive or negative opinions as I see fit on individual subjects. You have the right to ignore them
Im making the mistake of considering what you personally think to be important.

It's not "pluralistic ignorance". It could be we're crazy (Canadians and Americans), if you think it's crazy for people
to go over the top when the decorate for a celebration.
I've been told that halloween night doesn't get much attention outside of North America. Here it's very common (at least 1 or 2
homes per neighbourhood) for somone to dress up like the victim of an axe murderer or similar. They lay down motionless at the front door. When the
little kids come to the house for trick or treat (they get given candies), the "dead" body jumps and scares the wee out of them -
literally. LMAO!
It's also common to hang ghosts, monsters or other creatures by the neck from trees on the lawn for decoration for the night. It looks good here
as most of the leaves have fallen. So it wouldn't be to far out of the ordinary for someone to hang a life size dummy from a big tree in front,
or a mechanical dummy or even a person (on a safety rig) for the same reason. Maybe a bit tastless, but not unexpected.
So a real suicide would be very likely to be admired as an extremely realistic decoration.

As an american, was I insulted nope, I had a fake dead body hanging from my front porch. It could easily have been a real person and the only way to

Am I predjudice? Yup, I'm an american and I'm better than everyone else. I drive a big old honkin truck, live on a big old plot of land, I

I've only just read through this, having a cuppa.
Cita, have you ever lived in the USA.? I mean LIVED. Not just a holiday for a week or three, but long term.
I had the opportunity to get USA citizenship after working there for a number of years, but it meant my son being born in the 'States. As my
first was born here on IoW, with exceptional facilities, the decision was easy. I could have got the citizenship thing later, still.
But, when we had a good hard look at the lifestyle, and general everyday behaviour, the decision was made to come back her to IoW. No ethnic
probs(yet!), great health system(most of the time), and no guns.(except for the drug gangs now). I know my sons are growing up as safely as I can
provide, without locking them away.
In the USA, if you haven't got money, you're nobody. The debacle after the New Orleans hurricane has proved that to a world audience.
The USA is a great place to holiday, great for doing business with, but live there, no thanks.
The Tweed coast of northern New South Wales is where I'll retire! Cudgera aka Hastings Point, quiet backwater with great fishing!
I'm not yank bashing, by and large they are very hospitable people to strangers. They are just very insular and unaware of the rest of the
world.
You'll find that most of the top engineers in the USA are european, or from one of those big islands in the South West Pacific.

Actually Derf, Canadian Bacon is what we in the UK call 'back bacon'. The greasy, cooked to fcuk stuff that gets served up wherever I have
been in the states is in the uk called 'streaky bacon'. Its 50% fat and low grade.
So, in that instance, canada wins

You are in an interesting situation now. You can either do nothing, and look like a bag of wind, or you can search through my 6,500 posts to try and

This thread is really good for a smile , thanks fellas.
But as I said, most of the top technical brains working for USA companies are from somewhere other than the good ole USA.
Sorta says somethin', don't it???
And as I recall, there were another couple of armies 'helping' the 'worlds police' in Iraq...and Afghanistan...and
Kuwait...and the Balkans...and South East Asia....and Korea. In WW2 the yanks even had a plan to let the Japs invade Australia down to the Tropic of
Capricorn, but the Aussies thought different!!!
And the USA only came into ww2 after the deal had been done, and UK traded half of its Caribbean Islands for some old hulks, and signed a commitment
to pay for all the equipment and men from the USA. Gordon Brown ended this in 1999-2000. Yes, the UK was still paying off the debt 55 years
later!!!!!
Who refused to help the UK in the Falklands?
Who killed more Brit soldiers in Kuwait than the Iraqis?
I was in the jungles with yanks, and would have felt safer in a field of vc.
But, by and large they are very hospitable to british tourists.
Still, they make fantastic big v8's that sound great at 9k rpm. And they still build rwd cars. So they must be doing something right...or so
they tell us.
