Rover? I thought those engines were derived from the Merlin (Rolls Royce)

I've seen Charlie Broomfield's SD1, it redlines at about 2200rpm.
He used a planetary gear out of a Leyland bus gearbox, to raise the rpm by a ratio of 3:1. Then he fitted a jag auto box.

Rolls Royce swapped the tank engine factory with Rover for the Rover Whittle jet engine plant and manufacturing rights.
Air Ministry was furious with the Wilks brothers because they wasted time do their own tinkering and unoffical mods rather than rushing the jet into production.

Vauxhall also tried to make Whitlle engines and made an even bigger mess of it than the Wilks brothers.

Sorry, but for me that will always be a Rolls Royce Merlin!

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

Meteor/Merlin devide isn't clear cut.
Rolls Royce shipped B grade Merlin aero engine parts to the tank factory to build Meteor/Meteorite engines. Some Meteor engines were actual built on Merlin blocks salvaged from Battle of Britain aircraft.

The Merlin was a truly great aero engine a great tank/tank transporter engine but a lousy marine engine when fitted to MTBs.

The original pic of the engine painted green would deffo mark it as an Army(tank) engine rather than an RAF/aircraft motor, also the lack of the superchargers on the rear of it (where you might like to try to affix your type-9), also point to it being a Meteor , rather than a Merlin!
All the same, they all sound awsome when fired up and runing at ground-level!

This Rolls Royce - http://tiny.cc/acebg

The tale goes - Porsche owner scooting along on autobahn, spies RR grill making ground on him. Porsche owner gives it more pedal...

RR grill gets bigger in the Porsche mirror, Porsche owner goes for it , and gives it his best shot.

Porsche runs out of steam, RR grill stuck to the rear of the Porsche.

Porsche pulls over and the RR goes blatting past.

Porsche driver clocks the English No plate and writes in to the Times/Telegraph to source the RR driver.

The RR driver plays his hand having read the newspaper, and attracts lots or press coverage.

Rest is history, other than RR took him to court to remove the grill.

Top end was about 240 I think....If your cod-end was strong enough to cope with pap handling.
