New definition of throwing a rod :)

Take a look at about 29:40 to see someone do a little more than throw a rod

From what I could see all the rods were still intact and it threw the head.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Hi Pete

Yes, although looking at the way they were aligned, it may need new piston rings before they go back in.

Also, right near the end there was a sequence of what I think was a VW beetle, with someone having done the only good thing I can ever think anyone could ever do with a beetle, which is to make less of it than before.

Not quite, the block actually split in two. The head is almost certainly still attached to the upper half of the block which was launched through the bonnet.

A separate video of this particular incident has been around for ages on YouTube, but it's a good reminder of the immense cylinder pressures that get developed in these engines.

This one was titled as 'Engine fail on Dyno. Cummins 5.9 entire intake manifold blows off'. Close, but try a little lower!

This looks totally trashed!
