Cooling for my BEC
Currently running a vw polo rad in the Locost but it's quite far back and at an angle.
I have created a air box to feed air directly on to the radiator but I'm still not happy with how hot it's getting while on
Motorway. It's creeps close to a 100! While sitting at about 70mph (7000rpm)
Is this exceptable for a BEC?
But I have the opportunity to by a crs Caterham radiator for a very good price. It measures 55cm to 35cm.
Any Idea if this would fit in a Locost nose cone?

I have a Clio rad fitted, stays around 80degrees on the move, the fan keeps it around 85-90 in traffic.

i too have a polo rad fitted and sits about 85-90 at 70mph 8k rpm on a gsxr 1000 bec..

Hi
we too have a polo rad , no extra ducting
fan cuts in at the right temperature
everything works fine.
 
Waterworks R1 Indy
Expansion tank & rad thermo switch.which controls the temperature by switching on the fan

I'm running a polo radiator, and a separate mocal oil cooler. After ringing the cars neck for 20mins on track the temperature never gets above
107 degrees.
If you are getting 100 degrees just taking it easy on a motorway, then your cooling setup definitely needs looking at

Thanks for your feedback.
Think I have several things I need to do to help
1) change mesh on front nose cone. This looks like it could restrict the airflow a great deal.
2) move radiator to front of chassis rather than at angle near engine
3) insulate bottom hose as it runs close to exhaust manifold! ( only just seen this which can't be good)
4) add header tank ?? ( not sure if needed)
5) if that doesn't work lie down and cry!

This is how I have plumbed mine in, works perfectly. I think an expansion tank is a must.

What engine it it? How is it plumbed in?
The rad angle won't be helping as the airflow wouldhave to change direction to go through the rad'. Air likes the easiest option and that
will be to go around/over.
If you're using the Polo rad' then you NEED an expantion tank.

It's a 1989 honda cbr 1000.
I have a cowling to channel the air to the radiator.
It's plumbed in right but without expansion tank currently.

So further routing abounds found its def bike radiator (crap!)
Will have to change this at a later date over winter!

How much is the Caterham radiator?
This radiator works nicely on my BEC and also on a friends BEC.
