ford sierra front and rear hubs
Since buying the wrong front hubs (4x4 cossie ones) I need to find a pair of standard ford sierra front hubs. I also need the rear hub carrier and
the part the wheel nuts go onto, this needs to be the brake disc type and not drums. Has anyone got any as I am stuggling to find any. Everything I
can find for sale is 4x4 stuff.
thanks

normal sierra 4x4 rear hubs (xr4x4 etc...) are the same as the non-cossie disc braked 2wd
cossie 4x4 rear hubs are effectively the same (100mm CV's etc), but have mounts to suit a larger rear disc
but from you other post I think its the bigger cossie 2wd rear hubs that your looking for to suit the 108mm CV joints

the caliper mounts are the same 2wd and 4x4, they use the same size 273mm disc.
the difference is in the caliper/carrier to allow vented or solid discs.

sorry I was meaning that a cossie 4x4 rear hubs was very similar to the standard sierra one, but the standard sierra ones have shorter caliper mounts
as they use 253mm discs.....
to clear it up (hopefuly) the types of hub I know of are:
std sierra with drums = no caliper mounts, push-in driveshafts only, different bearing size to the disc braked hubs.
std sierra with discs (inc. XR4x4) = caliper mounts to suit 253mm discs, stub axle to suit 100mm bolt-on CV's
sierra cossie 2wd = caliper mounts to suit 273mm discs, stub axle to suit 108mm bolt-on CV's
sierra cossie 4x4 / escort cossie = lugs to suit 273mm discs, stub axle to suit 108mm bolt-on CV's
std granada (mk3) = lugs to suit 253mm discs, stub axle to suit 100mm bolt-on CV's - same as std. sierra but 5 stud hubs
granada cossie 24v = lugs to suit 273mm discs, stub axle to suit 100mm bolt-on CV's - same as cossie 4x4 but 5 stud hubs
the later scorpio's also use the 100mm bolt-on CV joints and have 4 stud hubs, but I not sure if there are any other differences from the
granada/sierra....
then as you say the calipers/discs come in vented or solid versions of the 273mm ones, but only solid versions for the 253mm ones - but even the
253mm ones are overkill on a car as light as a seven....

Sierra 4x4/escort cosworth use 108mm shafts?
Your right about the discs on rear being overkill, but they do look alot better!!

ok so seem as I have will have the 108mm bolt in drive shafts due to my 7.5" diff, I could go for these rear hub carriers. So that would work
for the rears. Now one question I do have is the part that the wheel nuts bolt onto (what is that called?). Are these the same on standard sierra and
cossie variants?
http://www.anemboengineering.co.uk/29cosworth.htm
As for front hubs. Is there much difference between the 2wd front cossie hubs and standard sierra front hubs? I have found a pair of 2wd cossie front
hubs for sale at a good price but I dont want to get them if they wont work with my haynes chassis wishbones.
Thanks for help guys!!!!

you'd need both the stub axle and hub to match those alloy carriers
the alloy hub carriers / bearing carriers are a nice extra if you can afford it (not worth the money IMHO)
but they are totally worthless if you don't have the original hub and stub axle to go in them
this is all the bits in the assembly except the CV joints, bearings and rubber boots:
rear axle bits
you'll need to a matching set of all those bits to make it work
keep an eye open for something like this, they do come up now and then: (assuming it really is what it says it is...)

m43c45718cb
as for the front:
2wd cossie front hubs are bigger, have a different geometry and fit totally different brakes - it would be easier to make the 4x4 ones you've
already got fit
the package in coozer's post above looks ideal for the front - you can always sell off the unwanted rear axle bits later
the steering column would be useful for you and fairly easy to sell on if you don't need it

god this get worse...
I dont plan to use much of the standard stuff though. I am fitting new 4 pots on the front and new 2 pots on the rear. I can get hold of the correct
drive shafts to fit my 108mm diff but then I still need to find the 2wd cossie rear bits which maybe is very hard.
Fronts - like you say probably a lot easier to just get some standard sierra hubs and sell my 4x4c cossie ones. then I am all sorted at the front and
just need to find the rear bits..
yes the billet ones are a bit steep and like you say still need to find the stud axles and hub to match the carriers.

2wd cossie hubs / axles aren't as hard to find as you'd think
apart from the ones in the link above I couldn't see any other ones on ebay, but you could try some of the specialist cossie / rally breakers
that or as per my other post look out for a granny 24v cossie LSD - the stubs will fit in your LSD but are the smaller 100mm size...
if you wan't to keep your current LSD those are the only options that don't involve a lot of custom machined parts...
I'd try and have all these bits sorted before fabricating your rear uprights - the cossie hubs are a little bigger than the standard ones (the
CV joint is 8mm bigger for starters) so you'll want them handy to check the clearances.
the likes of my Dax accepts the cossie bits or the std. bits without any problems, but I don't know what allowance was made in the haynes
design...

just had a thought there is guy selling rear stud axles for the 2wd cossie, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171219167868
/>
I could use these with the cossie rear hubs and they would fit the 108mm drive shafts and my LSD diff.
Question is would the hub part that the wheel nuts go onto from the 4x4 cossie front hubs I have fit onto the rear instead? If so then that would
totally sort out my rear setup and then I just source some standard hubs/uprights for the front.

that links not working, are these the ones your looking at ?

94mm P.C.D. sounds right for a 108mm CV, but I don't have one to check (you can check against your own diff)

different form a cossie or different form a bog std. sierra or both ?
but £50 each is quite steep anyway and you'll still need to find the hub/wheel flange bits...
I'd reckon you could get pair of complete s/h hubs for under £100, but it might take a few weeks to find a set
(I know what its like, it took me 3 months to find all the cossie bits for my engine, but I got there in the end and saved quite a few hundreds of £
)

Just realised I got that wrong. My diff is 108mm with M8 threaded holes not M10's.. well mine measure about 8.5mm between the inside of the
threads

Your right I need to slow it down, dont need it all just yet anyway... mind you it might make a lot more sense to sell my diff and get the
7" LSD one instead then I could use all the standard stuff... and probably save a packet

the 100mm CV's do use M8 bolts - mine are M8x50
if your threaded holes measure ~8.5mm internally then they are M10
(its the outside of an M10 bolt that measures ~10mm dia. )
with regards to the stubs on ebay, I'd say its a safe bet they'd fit the same shafts as your diff, but less certain you'd be able to
find a hub carrier and wheel flange to match

well there are a pair of hubs and wheel flanges on ebay now but its already £100 and will fetch a fair bit more I think.
I am going to have a hunt round for the 7" diff. all the parts to go with it are readily availble and should I need a part in the future there
is more chance I will be able to find it...
There were a fee diff on here for sale, will have a look
