MX5 rear brake pipe connections

Does anyone know if the distribution block used for the MX5 rear brake pipes does anything for brake biasing, or can it be replaced by a standard t piece? I found out on the weekend that the rear pipes are sometimes swaged on to the block, and as I'm having all new pipes for the build I'd prefer to replace the block with something a bit more 'normal'.

It's the block attached to the pipe as in this picture;

The bias valve is by the MC, the block is just a daft T.

As far as I know it's just to split the pipe two ways. I binned mine.
