I've been on a bike since about 8 years old (that's 40 years), been on mountain bikes since 1993, raced downhill for 6 years, and still
can't manual or wheelie. Something goes with age...

Yes I bet he's broken a few things learning how to do that. I remember jumping on my Grifter when I was 8, and the front forks folded on
landing, oh the pain!

if you can't wheelie by the time you are 13, you will never do it.
I have tried but still can't do it, having SPDs does not help but I once managed to rip an XT cassette spider in trying!

only one problem, no seat on that bike, i would take it back to the shop.
