hi all,

as the title suggests, my breaks sqeak alot once they are warm. The brakes are just the standard cortina type with the solid discs etc. The discs and pads are new, but were only cheep unipart items. What should i try changing first??

hello mate i'd hazard a guess at a sticking piston on the caliper. This is not allowing the pad to return to its resting place clear of the disc.

Have you got the anti-squeal shims fitted ?

You could also try a small amount of "red brake grease" around rim of pistons to back of pad contact.

My breaks only sqeak when i press on them, but only when ive got them hot. I wonderd if it might be the cheep pads that are at fault. Was considering changing them and also may be swapping for drilled discs! What do u all reckon???

Brake rotors might be glazed over.

If they have a really shiney surface, they usually will squeek when hot.

My Jag did that until I turned the rotors and went with semi-metallic Ferodo pads while I was at it.

Clean the discs and pads with fairly coarse grade abrasive emmery or production paper ---- 80 to 100 grade.
Make sure you have anti squeal shims fitted.
Lightly grease shims, pad back plates and edges with "Coppaslip"


If that dosen't work fit better "OEM quality" pads (Even Rover didn't accept Unipart brake pads and shoes as meeting OEM spec for warranty replacements).

OEM spec pads generally have a spcial thick coating on the rear of he pad that acts as an nti-squeal mearsure.
