Forgive me but it sounds like you need an MK kit?!?!? Would be easier quicker and probably cheaper to buy a kit from MK and flog the chassis you have.

Is it an MK chassis? Didn't think they sold them on their own?

A1 - 7/12/09 at 03:38 PM

I could maybe help with a few bits. Ill look in the garage tonight.

locostbuyer83 - 7/12/09 at 03:44 PM

I bought the whole lot, paid someone to do it and they didnt complete it and its all im left with.
I wont get much for my chassis and i want to finish this one now ive started

Colnago_Man - 7/12/09 at 04:05 PM

Do you know if the chassis was designed to take a specific engine?

MK usually fit engine mounts in the chassis to fit the engine of your choice.

Perhaps post some pictures of the chassis , this way we can help to advice on the best parts to complete the job.

Hi Colnago_Man,

Thanks for your advise, i didnt realise that! Yes it was intended to have an R1 engine in it.
I will take some photos tonight and upload them.
The wishbones are fitted, along with brakes lines, steering rack and a fuel tank but I can't get on with the build until i get some parts.

Cheers

Two rear hubs with new brake shoes and cylinders a 3.60 diff and two drive shafts (One reconditioned) Fitted too MK rear uprights but the R/H side is bent.
Steering column with switch gear extension piece and shrouds. original Sierra steering wheel
The three pedals from an Mk
Complete set of rear lights stop/side/indicator and fog

Humbug - 7/12/09 at 04:30 PM

I've got a central rear view mirror (you didn't mention it but you will need one) - see here. I have also got a standard Halfords type square rear fog light.

Also, off the top of my head, you will need:

- radiator and hoses
- seat belts/harnesses
- dash switches

Simon

locostbuyer83 - 7/12/09 at 04:34 PM

Thanks for the info Simon,

If anyone can think of anything else i need to get i'll add it to my ever increasing list.

DavidW - 7/12/09 at 04:38 PM

I have 1 unused wide black Triton seat in black and black bonnet from an MK Indy with a cut out for an MK pinto exhaust.

The bonnet is in fair condition with a few scratches but I belive nothing that a polish wouldn't sort out.

name and shame who ever f**ked you over good luck with the build but im with liam buy a new kit from MK or keep an eye out on here or ebay for a part built kit

hughpinder - 7/12/09 at 05:12 PM

Here's the list I made at the satrt of mine. I think it icludes mst things except tooling. Obviously if you buy an engine/gearbox/clutch package as 1 unit with all the ancillaries, you don't need a lot of the bits. Also you may or may not choose to replace bits or service the engine, tuning bits etc all add up. Some of the things on the list can obviously be broken down to individual components.

Don't forget to look in the 'for sale' section on this forum, I'm sure you will get quite a lot of bits cheap on there.

Best of luck
Hugh

locostbuyer83 - 7/12/09 at 05:26 PM

Hi Hugh,

Thats quite a comprehensive list! Thanks!
atm i just want to get started but have to source all the bits first

hughpinder - 7/12/09 at 05:31 PM

Remember - you dont need everything at once - Get a few bits, refurbish/paint them while looking for the next batch of bits. Remember you need to get the uprights that match your wishbones to get the right geometry.

Regards
Hugh

yes, as long as wishbones are for sierra uprights

btw - I've also got a few odd's and ends of sierra/granada bits left over:
push-in driveshafts, calipers, front hubs......

StevieB - 7/12/09 at 05:58 PM

I can sell you everything you need to finish the build, conveniently already bolted together and complete with recently acquired registration

hughpinder - 7/12/09 at 06:08 PM

As said - Any sierra ones will do as long as your wishbones were made for sierra not cortine, mx5......

Regards
Hugh

Colnago_Man - 8/12/09 at 08:36 AM

Definitely R1,

Therefore you need to edit your original kit list to remove 'gearbox' and 'engine mounts'.

But add
Engine cradle (from MK)
Power commander
SpeedoHealer

Maybe worth to keep the thread alive by updating your wishlist regulaly, you'd be suprised what might come up over the winter months.

Have a look here for a good source of engines. They will also help with the loom and the clocks.

what the hell is a Power commander and im guessing the SpeedoHealer is to make the speedo work since it goes through a diff rather than a chain?

Colnago_Man - 8/12/09 at 12:40 PM

Click here for a explanation of power commanders. Much better words than I could every come up with.

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=122957

Speedohealer is required if you are going to use speedo that comes with the original bike (most builders do this). The circumference of you kit wheels will be different from those on the original bike so a speedohealer adjusts the calibration of the speedo accordingly.

agreed, but why not get reconditioned ones ?

these guys are really helpful and the prices arn't bad either
http://www.biggred.co.uk/

there is a surcharge to pay if you don't send them your old ones, its not much though so do the maths before buying old ones to send them
