mounting front number plate
jabbahutt - 18/11/08 at 03:02 PM

Afternoon all

How has everyone mounted the front number plate under the nose cone.

I was thinking of two bent brackets but thought i'd see if anyone has done anything less obvious which is a nicer/neater way of doing it?

Thanks
Nigel

I did have mine underneath the front of the nose cone, then briefly on the top of the nose (normal plate, not stick-on) until I got fed up with the crap gathering on the leading edge. My nose is a couple of inches higher than normal as I had to raise it up to help clear the engine (and ST bodywork is lower than most), so there is more room under the nose than lots. I made a sort of box with the number plate as the leading edge a) to reduce the lift a bit and b) to have less of a slope from the lower front of the nose to the bottom of the front chassis rail.

I made the box from bits of ali sheet, and rivetted on bits of body-coloured grp from where I cut out a bit of the original bonnet. Rescued attachment 2008-11-18 new number plate mount.JPG

Dont run one? That looks even better.

I know a few people who didn't - and got away with it.

Mine is stuck to the front of the nose with sticky pads.

Hasnt fallen off yet

I just hung mine with two hinges, if it touches one of the multitude of speed humps around Hull it just folds under.
It also disapears when I move at any speed..

Bit of left over ally sheet bent to about 30 degrees. Rivetted to the nose under the grill and then bolted the plate on with number plate screws.

As a bonus, it folded neatly out of the way when I went through the hedge and prevented damage to the nose or number plate

mine is riveted straight to the nosecone - no need for all this bracket malarky.

Just to add a pic, cos i know we all like em'

Self tappers x2 in to nosecone at the top, then an L shaped bit of ali at the bottom which secures to the same bolt that secures the nosecone on.

sticky pads never fallen off been used in the rain parked out in the heat never came off even when i smacked the nose cone on the barrier at cadwell no need for over complicating things in my opinion we could all spend our lived making brackets that are a total waste of time imho of course

bolted straight throught the plate and nose, no problem

Mines stuck on with double sided tape just below the grill. Only have 6 digits so I was able to reduce the width. Been OK for nearly 4 years

Yeah, but isn't yours the lightweight, low drag version??

have you considered stick on plate onto the nosecone?

that is what I have.

it is not strictly legal but compared to death by dangerous driving, is hardly the crime of the century.

Stuck on the nose cone, cheap to buy from Ebay and very light. I also got a stick on one for the rear.

Not sure if SVA friendly but has passed a few MOT's.

Sticky back here.
- The westfeild nose cone has a little flat you can rivet it too, but that has been opened out for added cooling to the rad and oil cooler.

I have a stick on variety on the front of my Tiger.Just had a MOT and specifically asked about it, they said as it was of correct size and lettering and in as near to vertical position as possible it was OK.
